Each mold certification requires professional training. Some certifications also require professional experience to qualify. The mold certifications are not listed in any particular order.
Mold Inspection Certification
A Certified Mold Inspector (CMI) assesses the presence of microbial contamination and the source of any underlying moisture intrusion. Depending on training, a certified mold inspector may be qualified for mold inspections on residential and/or commercial properties.
Residential Mold Inspection Certification
A Certified Residential Mold Inspector (CRMI) performs mold inspections on residential properties. The residential mold inspector identifies and assesses mold damage, collects samples, and recommends mold remediation protocols.
Commercial Mold Inspection Certification
A Certified Commercial Mold Inspector (CCMI) performs mold inspections on commercial properties including: office buildings, warehouses, shopping centers, apartment complexes, and multi-unit properties. The commercial mold inspection involves identifying mold, assessing mold damage, and collecting mold samples.
Mold Remediation Certification
A Certified Mold Remediation contractor (CMR) isolates, removes and/or cleans materials that have microbial contamination. Mold remediation contractors also identify and resolve the source of moisture intrusion.
Indoor Environmentalist Certification
A Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE) identifies the causes of poor indoor air quality, even when problems seem vague or unrelated to visible causes. An Environmental Consultant sees dozens of interrelated systems in a building and understands how those systems contribute to overall health. The CIE certification requires documented field experience conducting indoor air quality investigations.
Microbial Remediation Certification
A Certified Microbial Remediation (CMR) conducts remediation projects safely and thoroughly according to project specifications and in compliance with relevant government regulations and industry standards.
Microbial Investigator Certification
A Certified Microbial Investigator (CMI) specializes in diagnosing and treating a single area of expertise: microbial contamination. The microbial Investigator certification requires two years of documented field experience performing mold inspections. The CMI certification requires documented consulting experience in microbial sampling.
